Firefighters in Greece gain ground against wildfires near Athens

Greek firefighters have been battling wildfires burning for multiple days, including a large blaze near Athens, with easing winds recently helping crews near the coastal village of Psatha make progress after five days. The fires have killed multiple people, including five firefighters. Police have arrested two people in connection with a blaze near the coastal village of Porto Germeno, which investigators believe may have been caused by an electrical cable. The greater Athens region has been placed under near-maximum fire risk for Wednesday by the civil protection ministry.
