Jalen Hurts done for the season as blood clot complications emerge

The Eagles quarterback is out for the rest of the year after a blood clot moved to his lungs, leaving Philadelphia to sort out its trade deadline plans and the future of the coaching staff.

Jalen Hurts will not play again this season. A statement from his agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles confirmed that a blood clot tied to his calf injury has moved to his lungs, and he will need to take blood thinners going forward.

The news throws Philadelphia into a scramble. The Eagles now face the trade deadline and the rest of the schedule without their starting quarterback, and with it, harder questions about where the organization goes from here, including the long-term standing of head coach Nick Sirianni.

There is little incentive for the Eagles to tank given where they sit, but an upcoming three-game stretch against divisional opponents is expected to show whether this team can still salvage something out of the season or whether it is time to start planning for next year.

Meanwhile, the roster churn around the Hurts situation continues elsewhere in the league. The Seattle Seahawks have added a former Eagles player to their practice squad, according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, as Philadelphia's offseason-style decisions start well ahead of schedule.
