Every team in the division came up short on Sunday, and the Commanders had a Monday night game that could have snapped the skid. They did not.\n\nInstead, the loss made the slide official. The division is now 0-6-2 since Week 5, a stretch bad enough to earn its own footnote in NFL history, and not the kind any of these four franchises wanted.\n\nIt is a rough look for a division that usually gets more attention than most, between big markets, big names and a national rivalry or two. Instead the storyline has become about collective futility rather than any one team's success.\n\nNo single result explains the run. It is the accumulation of losses from Dallas, Philadelphia, New York and Washington stacking up in the same stretch that has made this notable. For now, the NFC East owns a distinction nobody wants, and the only question left is how much longer the drought stretches before someone in the division finally wins a game.","published_at":"2026-10-21T00:20:15.583659+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"NFC East makes unwanted history as first division ever to go winless in consecutive weeks","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfc-east-makes-unwanted-history-nfl/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"If Commanders lose, NFC East will be first division with zero wins in back-to-back weeks since merger","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/commanders-lose-nfc-east-first-120201585.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"If Commanders lose, NFC East will be first division with zero wins in back-to-back weeks since merger","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/if-commanders-lose-nfc-east-will-be-first-division-with-zero-wins-in-back-to-back-weeks-since-merger"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFC East on verge of bleak NFL record after Cowboys loss","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfc-east-verge-bleak-nfl-034915112.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Commanders will make wrong kind of NFL history with loss vs 49ers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/commanders-wrong-kind-nfl-history-070051895.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFC East standings update: Cowboys' disastrous division reaches a historic low","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfc-east-standings-cowboys-disastrous-034444318.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Commanders’ MNF loss to 49ers brings historic embarrassment to NFC East","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/commanders-mnf-loss-49ers-brings-053903305.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Washington Commanders loss makes NFL history as NFC East sets embarrassing record","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/washington-commanders-loss-makes-nfl-060215986.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Giants stay atop NFC East after division's historic winless stretch","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/giants-stay-atop-nfc-east-095548104.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NFC East makes wrong kind of history with Commanders MNF loss to 49ers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nfc-east-makes-wrong-kind-141026726.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/57ff48a5a933baac36bda50713ac97a8447f245cb4c64ad617701fd8c3d330ce/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fprofootballtalk.nbcsports.com%2F25d49136a6e2101404bf9704e295c448.jpg","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
