Rays and Brewers set for World Series, guaranteeing a first-time champion

Tampa Bay beat Cleveland in six games to take the AL pennant, while Milwaukee swept Los Angeles for the NL flag, and Game 1 starts Friday at American Family Field.

The 2026 World Series matchup is set, and baseball is guaranteed a new name on the trophy. The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians in six games to win the American League pennant, while the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the National League side.

Neither franchise has ever won a World Series. The Brewers are back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982, their second appearance ever, and will have home-field advantage. The Rays are making their third trip to the World Series, having previously fallen short in 2008 and 2020.

Game 1 is Friday night at American Family Field, with the series running through a possible Game 7 on Saturday, Oct. 31 if needed. All games air on FOX.

Whichever side wins, it will be the first time since 2023 that a new champion is crowned. For the Rays, it is a chance to finally finish what they started in two prior tries. For the Brewers, it is their first shot at a title in franchise history outside of that lone 1982 pennant.
