UCLA coach Bob Chesney announced Monday that the quarterback will miss the rest of the year after undergoing surgery on his left knee, an injury he sustained late in the first half of the Bruins' 17-15 win over Oregon.\n\nChesney did not mince words about the severity of the damage. \"Nico, he's going to be out,\" he said at his weekly media availability. \"It's severe.\" The surgery was scheduled for later Monday or Tuesday.\n\nThe timing stings for ninth-ranked UCLA, which sits at 6-0 under its first-year coach. Iamaleava had been the engine of that unbeaten start, and now the Bruins have to figure out how to keep it going without him for the remainder of the season.\n\nNo further details on the surgical procedure or Iamaleava's long-term recovery timeline were provided. UCLA will need to turn to its backup options at quarterback as it tries to protect its undefeated record and keep its spot in the national rankings.","published_at":"2026-10-21T00:20:15.583659+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Left knee surgery ends season for UCLA QB Iamaleava, Chesney says","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50222886/ucla-qb-nico-iamaleava-undergoes-season-ending-knee-surgery"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA loses QB Nico Iamaleava for season after severe knee injury that requires surgery","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-loses-qb-nico-iamaleava-004842218.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"UCLA star quarterback set to undergo surgery: ‘It’s severe’","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/19/sports/ucla-nico-iamaleava-undergo-surgery-severe-injury/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA confirms Nico Iamaleava needs surgery and will miss rest of season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-confirms-nico-iamaleava-needs-203630560.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"What's next for Nico Iamaleava?
