Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season with blood clots in his lungs, and reports say he played in London after already being diagnosed with a clot.
Jalen Hurts is done for the season. The Eagles confirmed Monday that further testing found several blood clots in the quarterback's lungs, but the bigger story quickly became what happened before that diagnosis.
Tom Pelissero of The Ringer and Netflix, who first reported Hurts' season was over, followed up with details on last week's game in London against the Jaguars. According to Pelissero, Hurts had already been diagnosed with a superficial blood clot before kickoff, and doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution. He was reportedly awake for roughly 36 hours before starting, throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown.
The report set off questions about why Hurts was cleared to play, and fly, under those circumstances. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni addressed it Monday, saying Pelissero had since adjusted the account to indicate Hurts did get some sleep before the game. Sirianni declined to get into specifics about the medical decision-making, saying he trusts the team's medical staff to make those calls. "I'm not a medical expert," Sirianni said. "I lean on our guys in all those situations. I'm a football coach."
No further details on Hurts' recovery timeline were given.
