Charlotte signed forward Brandon Miller to a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension, beating Monday's deadline for teams to extend players on rookie deals.\n\nHad the sides not reached an agreement, Miller would have headed into restricted free agency next offseason instead. Miller is already locked in for this coming season at $15.1 million, with the new extension covering six seasons total with Charlotte going forward.\n\nThe 23-year-old emerged as a 20-point scorer last season and is expected to carry an even bigger load now that the Hornets have traded LaMelo Ball. Securing Miller long-term signals Charlotte is building its future around him as the franchise cornerstone.","published_at":"2026-10-20T06:20:19.281214+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Brandon Miller lands massive $209 million Hornets rookie extension right before deadline","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/19/sports/brandon-miller-gets-five-year-209-million-hornets-extension/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Hornets Announce Brandon Miller Contract Extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/hornets-announce-brandon-miller-contract-001948433.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Brandon Miller, Hornets agree to 5-year, $209 million extension: Source","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7610822/2026/10/19/charlotte-hornets-brandon-miller-extension-signed-contract/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Hornets, forward Miller agree to 5-year, $209M rookie extension","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50221373/hornets-brandon-miller-agree-5-year-209m-rookie-extension"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Hornets, Brandon Miller reportedly agree to $209M contract extension ahead of Monday's deadline","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/breaking-news/article/hornets-brandon-miller-reportedly-agree-to-209m-contract-extension-ahead-of-mondays-deadline-210214163.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Charlotte Hornets agree to massive contract extension with Brandon Miller","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/charlotte-hornets-agree-massive-contract-211710389.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Hornets secure Brandon Miller with a 5-year, $209 million contract extension, AP source says","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/hornets-secure-brandon-miller-5-214821772.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Brandon Miller, Charlotte reportedly agree to five-year, $209 million extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/brandon-miller-charlotte-reportedly-agree-215459648.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Brandon Miller Contract Extension: Hornets Lock In $209 Million Deal","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/brandon-miller-contract-extension-hornets-220929405.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Hornets, Brandon Miller agree to $209 million contract extension before 2026-27 season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/hornets-brandon-miller-agree-209-220239044.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Charlotte Hornets’ Brandon Miller agrees to five-year, $209M contract extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/charlotte-hornets-brandon-miller-agrees-230806429.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://static01.nyt.com/athletic/uploads/wp/2026/09/19151136/GettyImages-2271858835-scaled.jpg","credit":"The Athletic","width":2560},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
