The Sacramento Kings announced Sunday that their guard suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during a live drill in practice, with an MRI confirming the tear. The team says Simmons will undergo surgery but has not given a return timeline.\n\nESPN's Shams Charania reported the injury is expected to be season-ending. Simmons had agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Kings on Sept. 4, hoping to find stability after years of injuries and inconsistent play disrupted his career.\n\nSimmons addressed the setback on his Instagram, writing that he has faced challenges before that tested him mentally, physically and emotionally, and that he has found a way through them, vowing he would be back.\n\nThe three-time All-Star has not played a full, healthy season in years, and this injury adds another significant obstacle to his attempts to reestablish himself in the league. No further details on his surgery or recovery plan have been released.","published_at":"2026-10-19T06:03:42.538373+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons sustains torn Achilles tendon in practice, will undergo surgery","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/kings-ben-simmons-sustains-torn-achilles-tendon-in-practice-will-undergo-surgery-000256014.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Ben Simmons’ NBA comeback suffers brutal blow in crushing setback with Kings","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/18/sports/ben-simmons-nba-comeback-suffers-brutal-blow-with-torn-achilles/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Sources: Kings guard Simmons believed to have torn Achilles tendon","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50214131/kings-simmons-believed-achilles-tendon-tear"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons reportedly believed to have sustained torn Achilles tendon in practice","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/kings-ben-simmons-reportedly-believed-to-have-sustained-torn-achilles-tendon-in-practice-224439470.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ben Simmons receives devastating injury update amid comeback attempt","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ben-simmons-receives-devastating-injury-225942508.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ben Simmons sustains Achilles injury during Sacramento Kings practice","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ben-simmons-sustains-achilles-injury-225627623.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons reportedly is believed to have torn Achilles in practice","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-ben-simmons-reportedly-believed-154651314.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings guard Ben Simmons suffered torn right Achilles in practice on Sunday","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-guard-ben-simmons-suffered-154651599.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons sustains torn Achilles tendon in practice, will undergo surgery","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/kings-ben-simmons-sustains-torn-achilles-tendon-in-practice-230343773.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ben Simmons’ comeback derailed by devastating injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ben-simmons-comeback-derailed-devastating-231008562.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ben Simmons Suffers Devastating Injury Before NBA Comeback","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ben-simmons-suffers-devastating-injury-231853101.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons tears Achilles in training","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-ben-simmons-tears-achilles-232243840.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings guard Ben Simmons tears his Achilles tendon in practice","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-guard-ben-simmons-tears-231517532.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings' Ben Simmons suffers torn Achilles at practice Sunday, will miss entire season","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-ben-simmons-suffers-torn-233148325.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings guard Ben Simmons tears Achilles tendon in practice","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-guard-ben-simmons-tears-195335811.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Lakers 2020 Champion Sends 4-Word Message After Heartbreaking Injury News","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/lakers-2020-champion-sends-4-031621544.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘I’m Gutted for Him,’ ‘Absolutely Brutal’ — NBA World Devastated As Ben Simmons’ Highly Anticipated Comeback Gets Derailed by Achilles Tear","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/m-gutted-him-absolutely-brutal-040433282.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kings’ Ben Simmons Gets Good Contract Update Amid Devastating Injury News","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kings-ben-simmons-gets-good-055307857.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Can Ben Simmons Return This Season?
