The safety was tossed late in the second quarter with Buffalo leading 13-10, and the penalty helped set up a Raiders field goal.
CJ Gardner-Johnson is out of the habit of finishing games clean. The Bills safety was ejected from Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Raiders after spitting in the direction of tight end Brock Bowers during an altercation in the final minute of the first half.
The two had been jawing after a play, and as Gardner-Johnson headed back toward the huddle he appeared to spit at Bowers. Officials flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct and sent him to the locker room. Buffalo led 13-10 at the time, and the penalty on the play helped set up a Raiders field goal.
It is the second ejection of Gardner-Johnson's career. He was tossed from a game in 2024 while with the Philadelphia Eagles after picking up two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, and he has drawn fines throughout his career for hits and chippy play that officials deemed over the line. Buffalo signed him in the offseason, and his latest ejection adds to a reputation that has followed him from Philadelphia to New Orleans to Buffalo.
