The Chargers receiver, back in the lineup for the first time since hurting his foot in Week 4, left Sunday's road game against the Kansas City Chiefs early in the second quarter with a head injury. He was later ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.\n\nIt's unclear exactly when the hit that caused the injury occurred. What is clear is the timing could hardly be worse. Los Angeles entered the game still winless this season, already dealing with scrutiny over its offensive coordinator and a struggling Justin Herbert, and now loses its most reliable offensive playmaker mid-game.\n\nThe Chargers trailed the Chiefs 9-3 in the second quarter when McConkey was sidelined, leaving Los Angeles to navigate the rest of the AFC West matchup without him. For a team already searching for answers, losing McConkey adds one more complication to an already difficult afternoon in Kansas City.","published_at":"2026-10-19T00:03:39.222210+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey injury update: What happened to the Chargers WR?","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ladd-mcconkey-injury-happened-chargers-212838291.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Chargers' McConkey, back from Week 4 injury, exits with concussion","url":"https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50213342/chargers-ladd-mcconkey-ruled-concussion-vs-chiefs"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey ruled out with a concussion","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/ladd-mcconkey-ruled-out-with-head-injury"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey Injury Update: Chargers WR’s Week 6 Status Revealed","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ladd-mcconkey-injury-chargers-wr-111519418.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Chargers WR Ladd McConkey evaluated for concussion vs. Chiefs","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/chargers-wr-ladd-mcconkey-evaluated-210905750.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey injury update: Latest news on Chargers WR's status in Week 6 game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ladd-mcconkey-injury-latest-news-210804302.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey ruled out with head injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ladd-mcconkey-ruled-head-injury-211952740.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Chargers WR Ladd McConkey ruled out with concussion early vs. Chiefs after awkward tackle","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/breaking-news/article/chargers-wr-ladd-mcconkey-ruled-out-with-concussion-early-vs-chiefs-after-awkward-tackle-211900725.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ladd McConkey update: Latest news on Chargers WR after head injury vs Chiefs","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ladd-mcconkey-latest-news-chargers-213213893.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Chargers star Ladd McConkey ruled out after scary head injury","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/18/sports/chargers-star-ladd-mcconkey-ruled-out-after-scary-head-injury/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Fantasy Football Injury Impact: Ladd McConkey Injury Means Trouble For Chargers Fantasy Managers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/fantasy-football-injury-impact-ladd-214853836.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://nbcsports.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/e624338/2147483647/strip/false/crop/1920x1080+0+0/resize/1920x1080!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhdliveextra-a.akamaihd.net%2FHD%2Fimage_sports%2FNBCU_Sports_Group_-_nbcsports%2F674%2F771%2Fnbc_pft_showmesomethingpt1_261016.jpg","credit":"Pro Football Talk","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
