The sophomore quarterback said Notre Dame "disrespected" him and his family during his high school recruitment.
BYU beat No. 2 Notre Dame 28-24 on Saturday night, and quarterback Bear Bachmeier made clear afterward that the win carried extra weight for him personally.
"Out of high school, Notre Dame disrespected me and my family pretty badly, and I wasn't going to lose to those guys," the sophomore told reporters after the game. He declined to give specifics about what happened during his recruitment, but he made it plain he had not let it go.
"There are some receipts kept," Bachmeier said. "I wasn't going to lose to those guys tonight."
The victory ranks among the biggest in recent BYU program history, and Bachmeier's performance against the Fighting Irish was described as one of the best outings of his career. For a sophomore quarterback, beating a top-two team while settling a personal grudge from his recruiting days made the night about more than just the scoreboard.
