The Hurricanes needed double overtime to get past Florida State, but that ugly win looked fine once No. 1 Georgia lost at home to Auburn and No. 2 Notre Dame fell to BYU.\n\nBYU rode that win over the Fighting Irish to a six-spot jump into No. 2, its highest ranking since 1984, leapfrogging Ohio State in the process. The Buckeyes moved up only one spot despite beating Indiana on the road, partly because quarterback Julian Sayin is dealing with a right shoulder injury. Coach Ryan Day said Sayin is likely out several weeks after getting hurt in the fourth quarter.\n\nNotre Dame and Georgia round out the top five after their losses. Indiana dropped one spot to No. 6 following its loss to Ohio State. With five of the previous top seven teams losing in a single week, the poll looks almost unrecognizable from where it stood before Saturday, and Miami finds itself on top mostly because everyone else blinked first.","published_at":"2026-10-19T00:03:39.222210+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Miami climbs to 1, BYU to 2 after chaotic week shakes up AP poll","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50211687/miami-climbs-1-byu-2-chaotic-week-upends-top-25"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"AP Top 25: Miami and BYU take the top two spots after a host of top-10 losses in Week 7","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/ap-top-25-miami-and-byu-take-the-top-two-spots-after-a-host-of-top-10-losses-in-week-7-180319323.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Despite FSU drama, Miami won — and is on the verge of first No. 1 ranking in 24 years","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7700986/2026/10/18/miami-win-analysis-no-1-ranking/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"When was Miami last ranked No. 1?
