In the full interview, Ishbia was discussing the broader difficulty of building a championship roster in today's NBA and acknowledging missteps he made early on in setting the franchise's culture as team governor, not singling out Durant's tenure as a mistake.\n\nDurant, who no longer plays for the Suns, saw the truncated quote land on his timeline and fired back, pushing back against the idea that his acquisition was being painted as an error. It marked a rare departure from his recent social media habits, which had mostly been limited to promoting his own media company.\n\nThe exchange underscores how quickly an out-of-context clip can spiral once it reaches a player known for engaging with anyone who brings up his name online.","published_at":"2026-10-19T06:03:42.538373+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Why Kevin Durant completely missed Mat Ishbia's point about his Suns tenure, building a championship culture","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kevin-durant-mat-ishbia-phoenix-suns-championship-culture/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Sorry Kevin Durant, Mat Ishbia wasn’t taking a shot at you","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/sorry-kevin-durant-mat-ishbia-000000995.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Durant fires back at Ishbia for negative framing of Suns tenure","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50203498/kd-fires-back-mat-isbhia-framing-suns-tenure"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant fires back at Mat Ishbia's comments about regretting the trade","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-fires-back-mat-190412530.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant fires back at Phoenix owner Mat Ishbia over trade comments","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-fires-back-phoenix-200904990.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Kevin Durant fires back at Suns owner Mat Ishbia over trade comments","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/17/sports/kevin-durant-suns-owner-mat-ishbia-trade-comments/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Durant fires back at Ishbia for negative framing of Suns tenure","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50203498/kd-fires-back-matt-isbhia-framing-suns-tenure"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant, Mat Ishbia trade bars on social media over shared time with Suns","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-mat-ishbia-trade-233620053.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant fires back at Suns owner Mat Ishbia over trade comments","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-fires-back-suns-202111516.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant has another social media beef, this time with Suns owner Mat Ishbia","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/kevin-durant-has-another-social-media-beef-this-time-with-suns-owner-mat-ishbia-020532365.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant has another social media beef, this time with Suns owner Mat Ishbia, Dillon Brooks","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/kevin-durant-has-another-social-media-beef-this-time-with-suns-owner-mat-ishbia-dillon-brooks-032735755.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant takes wild Bradley Beal shot at Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia during online tiff","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-takes-wild-bradley-053027923.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kevin Durant, Mat Ishbia trade shots as Dillon Brooks responds to ‘DUI’ jab","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kevin-durant-mat-ishbia-trade-182951987.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
