New York couldn't find a trade to stay under the second apron, so Brown lost the final roster spot to the former No. 2 overall pick.
The Knicks' roster is set, and it cost them Bruce Brown. New York waived the guard on Saturday after failing to work out a trade that would have let the team keep both Brown and James Wiseman while staying below the second apron. With no trade partner found, Wiseman gets the last spot instead.
Brown had actually survived the preseason cuts following Thursday's preseason finale, and the team reportedly liked what he showed. SNY's Ian Begley had reported earlier in the week that the Knicks would "explore all avenues" to keep both players, floating Pacome Dadiet and Tyler Kolek as possible trade chips to clear the needed money. None of those efforts panned out.
Wiseman, taken second overall in his draft class, now joins the reigning NBA champs to add frontcourt depth. For Brown, it means searching for a new home as the regular season approaches, while the Knicks move forward with a roster shaped as much by salary-cap math as by on-court fit.
