{"id":814,"section":"sports","section_label":"Sports","url":"https://www.brokenews.co/sports/814","headline":"Notre Dame heads to Provo for its first real test of the season","dek":"The undefeated Fighting Irish visit undefeated BYU in the first top-10 matchup ever played at LaVell Edwards Stadium.","body":"Notre Dame, ranked No. 2, travels to No. 8 BYU on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, the first top-10 game ever played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. Both teams arrive unbeaten, Notre Dame at 6-0 and BYU at 5-0, and Notre Dame is favored by 12.5 points.\n\nThe Irish rolled into this matchup off a 58-7 demolition of Stanford, leading 37-0 at halftime. Freshman running back Jonaz Walton carried 13 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard score, while quarterback CJ Carr went 14-of-20 for 181 yards and three touchdowns.\n\nBYU is no pushover, having beaten Iowa State 24-10 behind quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who threw for a season-high 329 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 109 yards on nine carries. He did it without running back LJ Martin, who is out 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.\n\nThe game has also stirred debate about Notre Dame's schedule, with critics arguing the Irish have faced too few challenging opponents this season. A loss here would strip away any margin for error and intensify those questions heading into the rest of the year.","published_at":"2026-10-17T23:48:29.232361+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Notre Dame vs. BYU prediction, odds, time: Week 7 college football picks from proven model","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/betting/news/notre-dame-byu-prediction-odds-time-2026-week-7-college-football-picks-bets/"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Notre Dame vs. BYU predictions, best bets: Top-25 clash is a mismatch for this reason","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/17/betting/notre-dame-vs-byu-prediction-week-7-college-football-odds-best-bets-picks/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘Unfair’: Notre Dame Blasted By Kirk Herbstreit Before BYU Game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/unfair-notre-dame-blasted-kirk-154709091.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"How to Watch Notre Dame vs. BYU: TV Channel, Live Stream, Time","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/how-to-watch-notre-dame-vs-byu-tv-channel-live-stream-time-oct-17-2026"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Have you been ignoring Notre Dame until it played someone good?
