Patriots Hall of Fame center Jon Morris dies at 84

Morris spent 11 seasons with the Patriots and became the franchise's first NFL Pro Bowler in 1970.

The New England Patriots announced Thursday that Jon Morris, a Patriots Hall of Fame center, has died at 84.

Morris played 11 seasons with the Boston and New England Patriots from 1964 through 1974, part of a 15-year career spanning both the AFL and NFL. He appeared in 130 games for the franchise and was one of the premier offensive linemen of his era.

Morris earned seven consecutive league All-Star selections, including six AFL All-Star nods from 1964 through 1969. When the Patriots moved into the NFL after the AFL-NFL merger, Morris became the first player in franchise history to earn an NFL Pro Bowl selection, picking one up in the team's debut NFL season in 1970.

Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft paid tribute to Morris following the announcement of his death, remembering him as a key figure from the franchise's earliest years.
