In the 25th annual survey of general managers, San Antonio was tabbed as the top pick to win the championship with 50 percent of the vote, a season after falling to the Knicks in five games in the Finals.\n\nVictor Wembanyama was the other big winner. The 22-year-old center received the most MVP votes at 77 percent, a jump from finishing third last season behind Oklahoma City's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver's Nikola Jokic. GMs also named him the player they would most want to build a franchise around, with 93 percent support, and he picked up Defensive Player of the Year buzz as well. Both his MVP and build-around percentages set records for the survey.\n\nThe Spurs also ran away with best young core, getting 87 percent of the vote thanks to Wembanyama alongside 21-year-old Stephon Castle, the No. 4 pick in 2024, and 20-year-old Dylan Harper, the No. 2 pick in 2025. Elsewhere, executives expressed uncertainty about the 76ers heading into the season.","published_at":"2026-10-16T23:48:26.301536+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"2026-27 NBA GM survey takeaways: Spurs favored to win title with Wemby as MVP, league execs unsure about 76ers","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2026-27-nba-gm-survey-takeaways-victor-wembanyama-mvp-spurs-76ers-knicks/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Spurs, Wemby dominate NBA's annual survey of general managers","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/spurs-wemby-dominate-nbas-annual-180006277.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"NBA GMs project Wembanyama, Spurs to hoist hardware","url":"https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50190258/victor-wembanyama-spurs-dominate-annual-nba-gm-survey"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Wembanyama, Spurs out to rebound from disappointing NBA Finals loss in quest for sixth title","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/wembanyama-spurs-rebound-disappointing-nba-175714434.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Spurs favorites to win NBA title, Victor Wembanyama dominates player categories in 2026-27 GM survey","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/spurs-favorites-to-win-nba-title-victor-wembanyama-dominates-player-categories-in-2026-27-gm-survey-161614622.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama dominates NBA GM poll, but Nikola Jokic still beats him in 1 category","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/spurs-victor-wembanyama-dominates-nba-170733430.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NBA's annual GM survey is out: Victor Wembanyama, Spurs get a lot of love, including title favorites","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nbas-annual-gm-survey-victor-174324074.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NBA general managers pick Spurs for title, Wemby as MVP","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nba-general-managers-pick-spurs-191351552.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"NBA GM survey: Wembanyama will win MVP and defensive player of year, Spurs will win title","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nba-gm-survey-wembanyama-win-225607927.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"San Antonio Spurs 2026-27 Preseason Preview","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/san-antonio-spurs-2026-27-220724331.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
