Brewers sweep Dodgers out of NLCS, end bid for three-peat

Milwaukee closed out a 5-4 Game 4 win on Thursday night to reach the World Series for the first time in decades.

The Dodgers' run atop baseball ended at 8:08 p.m. Thursday, and it ended with a whimper. Kiké Hernández lined out to left, Jackson Chourio ran it down, and that was that: a 5-4 loss sealed a four-game sweep in the NLCS and sent Los Angeles home instead of toward a third straight World Series.

The Brewers had to work for it, overcoming an early deficit before finishing off the series. It's the kind of relentless stretch that has defined their run through October, and it punches Milwaukee's ticket back to the World Series after a long absence.

For the Dodgers, this is as flat an ending as a dynasty gets. Two-time defending champions, swept before they could mount any real resistance, with plenty of blame to go around for how a team built to win again instead folded in four straight. The questions now are about what went wrong and who answers for it, but none of that changes the result: Los Angeles is done, and Milwaukee is headed to the World Series.
