Al Michaels says he'll know when it's time to leave Prime Video

The 81-year-old broadcaster, now in his fifth season calling Thursday Night Football, says the call will come from Amazon, himself, or both.

Al Michaels isn't planning a dramatic exit from the booth. Appearing on The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday, the 81-year-old was asked how he'd know when it's time to stop calling NFL games for Prime Video, and he gave a characteristically unbothered answer.

"Well, either the people that I work for will tell me, or I'll know myself, a combination," Michaels said. He added praise for the streamer, saying "the folks at Amazon and Prime have been fantastic. Fantastic to me."

Michaels left NBC for Prime Video on a three-year deal when the streamer took over Thursday Night Football in 2022. Since that initial contract ended, Amazon has extended the arrangement on a one-year basis twice. Now in his fifth year with the package and four decades removed from his Monday Night Football debut, Michaels remains one of the sport's most recognizable voices.

Whether this is the final stretch of that run is still an open question, but Michaels made clear he isn't going to fight the outcome either way. If Amazon decides not to renew again, he said, he'll be fine with it.
