The team has not confirmed the changes and has a press conference scheduled for Thursday morning.\n\nThe shakeup comes on the same day Philadelphia re-signed Don Mattingly to a two-year contract covering 2027 and 2028, and it marks the start of a broader staff overhaul built around him. Long had been under contract through 2028 and has worked as a major league hitting coach for 20 consecutive seasons. Long and Dickerson had been together on the Phillies staff since 2022, surviving the managerial switch from Joe Girardi to Rob Thomson and then from Thomson to Mattingly in late April.\n\nLong's exit follows a steep one-year decline in the Phillies' offense, which finished fourth in their league this past season. The team is expected to fill out the rest of Mattingly's coaching staff in the coming days.","published_at":"2026-10-15T05:04:16.719263+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Long, Dickerson will not return to Phillies staff in '27 (sources)","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-part-ways-with-kevin-long-bobby-dickerson"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Phillies fire hitting coach Kevin Long, infield coach Bobby Dickerson: Sources","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7663052/2026/10/14/phillies-kevin-long-fired/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Phillies to move on from Kevin Long, Bobby Dickerson as staff changes begin","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/phillies-move-kevin-long-bobby-184800399.html"}],"more_coverage":[],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
