Porzingis out indefinitely, says he does not have HIV or AIDS

The Warriors center broke his silence on social media after the team announced he has no timetable to return from a still-undisclosed health matter.

Kristaps Porzingis is still not playing, and the Warriors still are not saying why. The team announced Wednesday that its center will remain out indefinitely with a health-related issue, the same one that has kept him away since before training camp began. Porzingis missed camp and the team's first five preseason games because of it.

Minutes after that announcement, Porzingis posted his first public comments on the situation, pushing back against online speculation about his condition. Among his remarks, he directly denied having HIV or AIDS, trying to shut down one strand of the rumors that have spread during his absence.

The Warriors have not disclosed a diagnosis or a timetable for his return, with the regular-season opener a week away. Porzingis did return to the team's practice facility Tuesday to meet with general manager Mike Dunleavy and Rick Celebrini, the vice president of player health and performance. Coach Steve Kerr said before that night's preseason game against the Lakers in Las Vegas that he had no update to share. The team says Porzingis will continue to be around the group even while he remains sidelined.
