According to Front Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiegel, ESPN's top NFL broadcast team argued before kickoff at SoFi Stadium over an issue that had been quietly simmering between them.\n\nThe source of the friction: Buck recently landed a new six-year deal with ESPN that keeps him in the Monday Night Football booth through the network's next Super Bowl, while Aikman has not received a formal offer. Buck reportedly was the one who finally addressed it directly, bringing up the disparity before the game. The tension eventually eased, and by the time the broadcast started, the two sounded like the pair that has worked together for a quarter century.\n\nESPN declined to comment on the report. The booth's next big assignment carries extra weight given the circumstances, since Buck and Aikman are set to call the network's first Super Bowl in February, at the same SoFi Stadium where Monday's argument reportedly took place.","published_at":"2026-10-14T23:18:50.247625+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman reportedly argued over contract situation before Rams-Bills","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/espn/joe-buck-troy-aikman-argument-contract.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman reportedly argued over contract situation before Rams-Bills","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/joe-buck-troy-aikman-reportedly-202221452.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman in shock pre-game argument over $108 million ESPN contract drama","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/14/sports/joe-buck-troy-aikman-in-shock-pre-game-argument-over-108m-contract-drama/"},{"outlet":"Front Office Sports","publisher":"Front Office Sports","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman Have Had Tension Amid ESPN Contract Talks","url":"https://frontofficesports.com/article/joe-buck-troy-aikman-tension-espn-talks/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Troy Aikman, Joe Buck reportedly got into argument in 'Monday Night Football' booth over contract extension tensions at ESPN","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/troy-aikman-joe-buck-reportedly-got-into-argument-in-monday-night-football-booth-over-contract-extension-tensions-at-espn-194225040.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Joe Buck and Troy Aikman reportedly bickered over their ESPN contract situations","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/joe-buck-troy-aikman-reportedly-194502067.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman reportedly have "tension" in what could be last year of their partnership","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/joe-buck-troy-aikman-reportedly-204651613.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Joe Buck, Troy Aikman reportedly have \"tension\" in what could be last year of their partnership","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/joe-buck-troy-aikman-reportedly-have-tension-in-what-could-be-last-year-of-their-partnership"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Ex-Cowboys QB Troy Aikman in Fiery Clash Before MNF Broadcast: Report","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ex-cowboys-qb-troy-aikman-231420151.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://cdn1.thecomeback.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/94/2024/06/A52I6921.JPG-1200x1200-2-e1718912135813.jpg","credit":"Awful Announcing","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
