Penix expected to practice Wednesday, on track to start vs. Bears

The Falcons quarterback is confident the rib injury he suffered in the overtime loss to Baltimore isn't serious.

Michael Penix Jr. got banged up in Atlanta's Week 5 overtime loss to Baltimore, taking a rib injury that had Falcons fans bracing for bad news. So far, the news isn't bad.

Penix was confident even right after the Sunday night game that the injury wasn't serious, and nothing about that assessment has changed since. The Falcons expect him to practice Wednesday, which would put him on track to start this week against the Bears.

That said, status updates on rib injuries have a way of shifting as the week goes on, and Atlanta is being careful not to call it official until he's gone through practice. For now, though, the plan is for Penix to be under center against Chicago, with the Falcons hoping the early optimism holds up once he's actually taking hits again.
