He pointed to how McAfee assembles his daily show, noting that once something \"piques his interest,\" McAfee has \"the rolodex\" to land access that most others in sports media simply don't have. That access has extended well beyond locker rooms, with McAfee landing interviews with top athletes, coaches, celebrities and even President Donald Trump.\n\nFoss, who joined ESPN in 2017 and was promoted to executive vice president and executive editor this past May, also addressed the ongoing criticism of McAfee's role on College GameDay. Asked what he'd say to those critics, Foss didn't hesitate. \"Absolutely nothing,\" he told Front Office Sports' Mike McCarthy, making clear the network has no plans to curb McAfee's expanding presence across its programming.","published_at":"2026-10-14T04:49:16.110960+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"ESPN exec believes ‘generational’ Pat McAfee ‘might be a journalist at heart’","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/13/sports/espn-exec-believes-generational-pat-mcafee-might-be-a-journalist-at-heart/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Pat McAfee earns ‘generational’ endorsement from ESPN executive","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/pat-mcafee-earns-generational-endorsement-012719791.html"},{"outlet":"Front Office Sports","publisher":"Front Office Sports","title":"ESPN Exec Mike Foss: Pat McAfee ‘Might Be a Journalist At Heart’","url":"https://frontofficesports.com/article/mike-foss-pat-mcafee-journalist/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"ESPN Exec Mike Foss: Pat McAfee ‘Might Be a Journalist At Heart’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/espn-exec-mike-foss-pat-215312227.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"ESPN executive labels Pat McAfee ‘a journalist at heart’ amid recent criticism over coverage","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/espn-executive-labels-pat-mcafee-073000729.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://frontofficesports.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/2026-10-03T173034Z_1468347747_MT1USATODAY29985540_RTRMADP_3_PAT-MCAFEE-JOINS-IOWA-FANS-IN-THE-I-O-W-A-CHANT-OCT-3-2026-scaled-e1791928120712.jpg?quality=80&w=1024","credit":"Front Office Sports","width":1024},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
