The Red Wings are finalizing a seven-year contract extension with the right wing worth $13 million annually, sources told reporters, locking up one of the team's top offensive weapons just as he was approaching unrestricted free agency.\n\nDeBrincat, 28, is in the final season of a four-year deal he signed on July 9, 2023. He leads the Red Wings in goals (4) and points (8) so far this season, and had two goals and an assist in a recent loss to the New Jersey Devils. Since his first year with the club in 2023-24, DeBrincat leads the franchise in goals (111) and ranks second in points (230).\n\nThe extension lands amid a rocky stretch for the organization, which has carried over from a turbulent summer. Former general manager Steve Yzerman stepped down, and Dylan Larkin had his captaincy stripped after requesting a trade. Against that backdrop, keeping DeBrincat signed long-term gives Detroit at least one piece of offensive certainty moving forward.","published_at":"2026-10-14T04:49:16.110960+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"DeBrincat, Red Wings finalizing 7-year, $91M extension, sources say","url":"https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/50178559/debrincat-red-wings-close-7-year-extension"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Report: Red Wings Closing In On Seven-Year Extension With Alex DeBrincat","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/report-red-wings-closing-seven-012914776.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Red Wings, Alex DeBrincat agree to 7-year, $13 million AAV extension: Source","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7374283/2026/10/13/red-wings-alex-debrincat-contract-extension/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Red Wings Reportedly Closing In on Massive Alex DeBrincat Extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/red-wings-reportedly-closing-massive-010405297.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Detroit Red Wings reportedly close to extension with Alex DeBrincat","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/detroit-red-wings-reportedly-close-012933048.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Detroit Red Wings reportedly close to extension with Alex DeBrincat","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/detroit-red-wings-reportedly-close-012933221.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Detroit Red Wings reportedly close to extension with Alex DeBrincat","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/detroit-red-wings-reportedly-close-012933383.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Report: Former Senator Closing In On Massive $91 Million Contract Extension","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/report-former-senator-closing-massive-033440585.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Alex DeBrincat Signing Massive Extension With the Red Wings","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/alex-debrincat-signing-massive-extension-041112609.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Red Wings Ink DeBrincat to Long-Term Deal","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/red-wings-ink-debrincat-long-043124706.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
