Cook fumbled twice in Buffalo's 37-34 overtime win over the Rams, including one he lost in overtime.
James Cook is putting up big rushing numbers for the Bills this season, but he keeps putting the ball on the ground with it. Buffalo survived Monday night's 37-34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams despite Cook fumbling twice, one of which he lost in overtime, nearly handing the game away.
Bills head coach Joe Brady addressed the issue with reporters on Tuesday, saying there have to be "consequences" if Cook's ball security problems persist. Brady did not rule out fewer carries as one of those consequences, even while acknowledging Cook has done "a lot of good things" for the offense this season.
The fumble against the Rams brings Cook's total to four on the season. According to ESPN's Nick Suss, that gives him 11 fumbles since the start of the 2025 season, including the playoffs, the most of any non-quarterback in the NFL over that span.
Cook remains one of the league's most productive runners, sitting third in the NFL in rushing. Whether that production continues at the same workload may now depend on whether he can hang onto the football.
