Gayle Benson says she will not accept the current level of play following a third straight home loss to the Vikings.
Saints owner Gayle Benson used a Tuesday speech at the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club Luncheon to publicly call out her own team after a 23-13 loss to the Vikings dropped New Orleans to 1-4. The defeat was the third straight for the Saints, all of them at the Superdome, with the Vikings loss coming on a Monday night that was supposed to mark the 20th anniversary of the team's post-Katrina return to the stadium.
Benson said the loss "truly disappointed" her and made clear she is not interested in excuses. "I will not make excuses, and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard," she said. "I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improve this team. Everyone in this organization understands the urgency."
She added that fans "are right to expect more than we have delivered" and said responsibility starts with her as owner, while stressing that no single person is being singled out for blame. The Saints are 7-15 since Kellen Moore took over as head coach and have not made the playoffs since 2020. Benson's comments leave open the possibility of changes to the coaching staff or front office if results do not improve.
