Asked whether the apparent leak of the offensive play sheet affected the outcome, Sanders was blunt: \"It didn't work.\"\n\nThe leaked playbook wasn't the only oddity from that game. Colorado also committed a special teams blunder, sending out just eight players for a field goal block attempt, forcing a timeout, and then returning with only nine. Sanders explained the mix-up as a communication breakdown, saying someone misheard his instruction to \"go block it\" for the punt block as applying to the field goal block instead.\n\nThe explanations come after a week off gave Sanders time to address what he called \"the elephant in the room.\" Colorado has faced criticism both for the leaked play sheet going viral and for the special teams confusion, but Sanders made clear he isn't treating either as a turning point in the loss.","published_at":"2026-10-14T04:49:16.110960+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Deion Sanders dismisses leaked playbook factoring into Colorado’s loss to Texas Tech: ‘It didn’t work’","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/13/sports/deion-sanders-dismisses-leaked-playbook-factoring-into-colorados-loss-to-texas-tech-it-didnt-work/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Colorado’s Deion Sanders clarifies ridiculous special teams blunder during Texas Tech game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/colorado-deion-sanders-clarifies-ridiculous-223508207.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Deion: Lost Colorado play script didn't affect outcome vs. Texas Tech","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50175625/sanders-downplays-colorado-lost-play-script-vs-texas-tech"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Deion Sanders downplays 'leaked' Colorado play call sheet before Texas Tech loss","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/deion-sanders-colorado-leaked-play-call-sheet/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Deion Sanders downplays Texas Tech fans' discovery of Colorado play sheets ahead of Red Raiders' Week 5 win over Buffaloes","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/deion-sanders-downplays-texas-tech-fans-discovery-of-colorado-play-sheets-ahead-of-red-raiders-week-5-win-over-buffaloes-184835008.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Deion Sanders calls leaked playbook 'something that happens'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/deion-sanders-calls-leaked-playbook-214708632.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Colorado football’s Deion Sanders confirmed leaked playbook before Texas Tech game was real","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/colorado-football-deion-sanders-confirmed-221449163.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Deion Sanders dismisses leaked playbook factoring into Colorado’s loss to Texas Tech: ‘It didn’t work’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/deion-sanders-dismisses-leaked-playbook-024333757.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"‘Zero Accountability,’ ‘Terrible Answer’ — CFB Fans Rip Deion Sanders’ Response to Texas Tech Finding Colorado’s Playbook in Hotel Bar","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/zero-accountability-terrible-answer-cfb-062756476.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
