The senior quarterback, who stands 6'5 and 215 pounds, had been boosting his NFL Draft stock with a strong start to the year before exiting the Oregon game with the injury.\n\nIamaleava struggled before going down, throwing for 162 yards with two interceptions and completing under 60 percent of his passes against the Ducks. Cal Poly transfer Ty Dieffenbach stepped in and played the entire second half, helping UCLA preserve its perfect record.\n\nWith the injury confirmed on Monday, UCLA now turns to Dieffenbach as it prepares for a primetime road matchup against Wisconsin, one of the biggest games of Luke Fickell's tenure with the Badgers. UCLA enters at No. 12 in the rankings, and the coaching staff will lean on Dieffenbach to keep the Bruins' undefeated season intact without their star passer under center.","published_at":"2026-10-12T23:04:35.401115+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Where does undefeated UCLA look next with QB Nico Iamaleava out with knee injury?","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7684546/2026/10/12/ucla-football-quarterback-nico-iamaleava-injury/"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava expected to miss remainder of season after knee injury","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ucla-qb-nico-iamaleava-knee-injury-season/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA to be without star QB vs. Wisconsin","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-without-star-qb-vs-185321998.html"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Why UCLA football is in trouble without Nico Iamaleava","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/why-ucla-football-trouble-without-203111075.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava reportedly sidelined 'indefinitely,' could miss 'remainder of season'","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/ucla-qb-nico-iamaleava-reportedly-sidelined-indefinitely-could-miss-remainder-of-season-182958904.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Nico Iamaleava’s injury update confirms UCLA’s worst fear","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nico-iamaleava-injury-confirms-ucla-183304500.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Nico Iamaleava knee injury update is horrible news for UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nico-iamaleava-knee-injury-horrible-183552613.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava Jr. to miss extended time with knee injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-qb-nico-iamaleava-jr-183104259.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Upcoming MSU opponent loses starting QB to reported knee injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/upcoming-msu-opponent-loses-starting-184914858.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Nico Iamaleava out for season, dampening UCLA's College Football Playoff hopes | Report","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nico-iamaleava-season-dampening-uclas-191747307.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava’s season imperiled by serious knee injury","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/12/sports/ucla-qb-nico-iamaleava-injury-could-end-season/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA Get Disastrous Nico Iamaleava News After Oregon Upset","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-disastrous-nico-iamaleava-news-192646249.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA football sits at No. 12 in AP Poll but will be without their QB","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-football-sits-no-12-193322892.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"No. 12 UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava Reportedly Out Indefinitely With Knee Injury","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/ucla-bruins-qb-nico-iamaleava-knee-injury"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Nico Iamaleava injury update, former Tennessee QB out for season with knee injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nico-iamaleava-injury-former-tennessee-203601814.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA's Bob Chesney calls out Oregon DT Bear Alexander for 'egregious' punch","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/uclas-bob-chesney-calls-oregon-203615129.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA coach Bob Chesney denounces Bear Alexander's 'egregious' punch to back of QB Nico Iamaleava's head vs. Oregon that refs missed","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/ucla-coach-bob-chesney-denounces-bear-alexanders-egregious-punch-to-back-of-qb-nico-iamaleavas-head-vs-oregon-that-refs-missed-213103834.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"UCLA HC Bob Chesney blasts Oregon defender over ‘egregious’ punch at Nico Iamaleava’s head","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/ucla-hc-bob-chesney-blasts-220014707.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
