Testing conducted Monday confirmed the veteran defensive tackle tore his Achilles tendon, an injury he suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears. Coach Matt LaFleur had feared the worst immediately after the game, and the results bore that out.\n\nHargrave signed a two-year deal with the Packers in free agency and now joins linebacker Edgerrin Cooper on the list of Green Bay defenders lost for the year to Achilles tears in the last two weeks. That is twice in as many weeks that LaFleur has had to deliver the same grim diagnosis to a key piece of his defense.\n\nGreen Bay is expected to place Hargrave on injured reserve this week, a move that could line up with activating receiver Savion Williams off injured reserve. With Hargrave and Cooper both gone, the Packers' defensive front is suddenly thin on healthy, established bodies, and the team figures to look outside the building for reinforcements along the defensive line as it tries to steady things down the stretch.","published_at":"2026-10-13T04:46:28.436033+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave out for season with torn Achilles: Three trade targets for Packers","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/javon-hargrave-injury-update-packers-trade-targets/"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers lose DL Javon Hargrave to season-ending Achilles injury","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-lose-dl-javon-hargrave-171840735.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Tests confirm Packers DL Javon Hargrave tore his Achilles","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/tests-confirm-packers-dl-javon-hargrave-tore-his-achilles"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave injury update, Packers defensive lineman leaves game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/javon-hargrave-injury-packers-defensive-201159587.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave injury update, Packers defensive lineman leaves game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/javon-hargrave-injury-packers-defensive-201159582.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers fear Javon Hargrave tore his Achilles","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-fear-javon-hargrave-tore-205716621.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/javon-hargrave-believed-suffered-torn-012148362.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/javon-hargrave-is-believed-to-have-suffered-a-torn-achilles-tendon"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers Give Bleak Update After $23 Million Starter Carted Off in Bears Win","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-bleak-23-million-starter-015447408.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Javon Hargrave’s injury gets brutal update after Packers’ Week 5 win vs. Bears","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/javon-hargrave-injury-gets-brutal-023335342.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Matt LaFleur delivers concerning Javon Hargrave injury update after Packers win","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/matt-lafleur-delivers-concerning-javon-112106661.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers get devastating Javon Hargrave injury update after Bears blowout","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-devastating-javon-hargrave-injury-160033325.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Tests confirm Packers DL Javon Hargrave tore his Achilles","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tests-confirm-packers-dl-javon-161732847.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers suffer season-ending injury in Week 5 win over Bears","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-suffer-season-ending-injury-163909633.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Green Bay Packers: Confirm Career-Altering News for 2x-Pro Bowler","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/green-bay-packers-confirm-career-170904164.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave out for the season, per report","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-defensive-tackle-javon-hargrave-171632211.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave out for the season, per report","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/packers-defensive-tackle-javon-hargrave-171632713.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Source: Packers lose DT Hargrave to season-ending torn Achilles","url":"https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50167021/source-packers-lose-hargrave-season-ending-torn-achilles"}],"image":{"url":"https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/2026/10/12/7338bc2c-fd52-42b5-87f6-18e7abfae68d/javon-hargrave-packers.jpg","credit":"CBS Sports","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
