Penix hurts ribs late in Falcons' overtime loss to Ravens

Atlanta fell 30-23 in overtime after Penix was hit hard by Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson and had to sit out the extra period.

Michael Penix Jr. left Sunday Night Football with a rib injury late in the fourth quarter, and the Falcons went on to lose 30-23 in overtime to the Ravens.

The injury came on a hard hit from Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson. Penix initially left for just one play before returning, but he was unable to go once the game extended into overtime, leaving Atlanta without its starting quarterback in the extra period.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game there wasn't much of an update yet, noting the team would know more once they got imaging done on the injury. Penix himself said he expects to be ready for Week 6.

For a Falcons team already searching for consistency at quarterback, the timing is rough. Atlanta had appeared to be stabilizing before the loss, and now waits on further word about its starter's ribs heading into next week.
