Milwaukee's bullpen locked down the win after Jacob Misiorowski's taxing outing and a Brice Turang homer off Tarik Skubal.
The Brewers opened the National League Championship Series with a 2-1 win over the Dodgers on Sunday night at American Family Field, turning a tight pitchers' duel into a series lead thanks to one swing and a sturdy bullpen.
Brice Turang supplied the difference, homering off Tarik Skubal for the game's deciding run. Turang also made his presence felt defensively, including a stop and throw well behind the bag to get Mookie Betts in the first inning and denying Betts another potential hit earlier in the game.
Skubal was sharp for stretches, striking out six batters the first time through Milwaukee's order and stranding Jake Bauers after a one-out double in the second inning. He kept the Brewers off the bases entirely through the first three innings. But the long ball proved costly, and it was enough to offset Los Angeles managing only a single run of their own.
On the other side, Jacob Misiorowski worked a taxing outing for Milwaukee, leaning on the bullpen to close it out and keep the Dodgers scoreless the rest of the way. Betts had a modest night at the plate, hitting a single in the third and drawing a walk in the fifth.
The series now shifts with Milwaukee holding the early advantage.
