The Joe Gibbs Racing teammates banged doors exiting Turn 4 before Briscoe held on for his second straight playoff win.
Chase Briscoe won Sunday's NASCAR Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, holding off teammate Christopher Bell in the closest finish of the season. After 400 miles and 267 laps, the margin at the checkered flag was 0.029 seconds.
The finish got physical. Briscoe ran the outside line while Bell dove to the inside in the final corner, and the two made contact in Turn 4. Both somehow kept their cars straight and off the wall, with Briscoe crossing first and Bell settling for second. Ryan Blaney finished third, Josh Berry was fourth, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.
It is Briscoe's second consecutive playoff win, and it matters more than the trophy. The result moved him up to fourth in the standings, putting him within striking distance of the championship leaders with four races left in the playoffs. For a driver chasing his first Cup title, back-to-back wins is about as strong a case as he can make heading into the stretch run.
