With 2:16 left, quarterback Brock Thomas tried to run the ball in for the tying score, but a UCLA defender grabbed his facemask before Thomas was stopped just inside the 1-yard line.\n\nOfficials called the facemask penalty and awarded Oregon half the distance to the goal, but measured that penalty from the 3-yard line rather than from the spot where Thomas was actually stopped. That put the ball at the 1.5-yard line instead of where it should have been. Oregon's subsequent two-point conversion attempt was stopped just short of the goal line, sealing the loss.\n\nThe Big Ten said it would \"continue to emphasize consistent application of the playing rules,\" but the admission changes nothing about the final score. Oregon's loss to UCLA stands at 17-15.","published_at":"2026-10-12T17:03:19.018988+00:00","source_count":5,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten admits ref blew call on Oregon's failed two-point conversion in 17-15 loss to UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-admits-ref-blew-102723851.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Big Ten admits ref blew call on Oregon's failed two-point conversion in 17-15 loss to UCLA","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/big-ten-admits-ref-blew-call-on-oregons-failed-two-point-conversion-in-17-15-loss-to-ucla"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Big Ten officials admit pivotal error late in UCLA’s win over Oregon","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/10/11/sports/big-ten-officials-admit-mistake-late-in-uclas-win-over-oregon/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Ball was spotted incorrectly on Ducks' 2-point conversion, Big Ten says","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50161423/officials-spotted-ball-incorrectly-oregon-conversion-try"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten admits its officials made a massive error on Oregon's game-tying 2-point conversion attempt in loss vs. UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/big-ten-admits-its-officials-made-a-massive-error-on-oregons-game-tying-2-point-conversion-attempt-in-loss-vs-ucla-213558096.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten releases statement on critical officiating mistake in Oregon-UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-releases-statement-critical-215920992.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten releases statement following Oregon’s failed two-point attempt against UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-releases-statement-following-225722048.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten officials admit pivotal error late in UCLA’s win over Oregon","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-officials-admit-pivotal-232603399.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten: Officials spotted the ball incorrectly on Oregon's 2-point conversion attempt vs. UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-officials-spotted-ball-235422618.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten issues statement for referee mishap from UCLA vs. Oregon game","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-issues-statement-referee-001952970.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten Admits Officials Botched Oregon’s Final Two-Point Try","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-admits-officials-botched-023309491.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten Admits They Made Critical Mistake That Hurt Oregon in Loss to UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-admits-made-critical-050709256.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Big Ten admits major officiating mistake that hosed Oregon vs. UCLA","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/big-ten-admits-major-officiating-110358353.html"},{"outlet":"Fox Sports","publisher":"Fox Sports","title":"Big Ten Says Officials Erred Spotting Ball On Oregon's 2-Point Conversion Attempt","url":"https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/big-ten-b1g-oregon-ducks-ucla-bruins"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/d443519cd57d97529b68660c49d1d31c094cf911e40f7c355733c79b18b37fba/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200_h675%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fprofootballtalk.nbcsports.com%2F1735cb60704a0fcd5981f03932e45965.jpg","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1200},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
