Liberty fall into 2-0 hole after OT loss to Dream

New York now must win three straight games just to reach the WNBA Finals, something no team has ever done from this spot.

The New York Liberty are in trouble. The eighth-seeded Liberty fell 101-98 in overtime to the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday night, dropping Game 2 of their best-of-five WNBA semifinals series and leaving them down 2-0 with no margin for error.

The loss came with added confusion, as the Liberty were left unsure whether they actually had a timeout available at the end of the game. That uncertainty capped a night that already felt like it was slipping away.

No team in WNBA history has ever come back from a 2-0 deficit, which means the Liberty now have to do something that has simply never been done. Breanna Stewart said the focus is not on the full climb but on the next step. "We're not focused on winning three games straight right now," Stewart said. "We're focused on winning one game, and that's Friday, and then we go from there. This group has experience. I've been part of some crazy series and I have a lot of confidence."

Game 3 is Friday night in New York, with the Liberty needing a win just to keep the series alive.
