The team said in a statement that its focus is on preparing for the upcoming season, adding that it will not be negotiating extensions until later in the season.\n\nTowns has been the most outspoken of the group about where things stand, while Hart has also been vocal about not yet receiving a new deal. The pause comes just months after Towns helped the Knicks win an NBA championship, a title that marked a milestone for both the center and the franchise.\n\nA sizable gap reportedly remains between the sides in those discussions, which is part of why the organization is choosing to wait. For now, both Towns and Hart head into the season defending a championship without the contract certainty they had been seeking.\n\nThe Knicks have not given a specific timeline beyond \"later in the season\" for when talks might resume.","published_at":"2026-10-10T16:20:28.847621+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns gets major contract update as 'sizable gap' remains in extension talks","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/knicks-karl-anthony-towns-gets-152056404.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Knicks pause contract negotiations with Karl-Athony Towns, Josh Hart, others until 'later in the season'","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/knicks-pause-contract-negotiations-karl-athony-towns-josh-hart/"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Knicks take rare step to say no contract talks until 'later in season'.
