Breanna Stewart said she asked referee Kevin Fahy whether the Liberty had a reset timeout to advance the ball. Fahy checked with crew chief Fatou Cissoko-Stephens, who said no, and Fahy relayed that to Stewart. Without the timeout, New York settled for a Stewart 3-point attempt that missed everything, and the game ended there.\n\nAfter the game, Cissoko-Stephens disputed Stewart's account in a pool report, saying the remaining timeout was in fact communicated to the Liberty. That leaves two conflicting versions of what happened at the scorer's table in the moments that decided the game.\n\nEither way, New York now faces a 2-0 deficit in the semifinal series against Atlanta, with the mechanics of that final possession likely to follow the Liberty into their next game.","published_at":"2026-10-08T20:29:03.514505+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Liberty's playoff misery deepens with late-game timeout confusion","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/libertys-playoff-misery-deepens-game-033118466.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Stewart says Liberty told they did not have reset timeout in OT; refs dispute this","url":"https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/50131115/liberty-referees-odds-postgame-reset-game-2-loss-dream"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Why the Liberty didn't call a reset timeout late in OT.
