Angel City had arrived unbeaten in its last 10 games, but that streak means nothing now.\n\nThe winner came in the 96th minute, when referee Alexandra Billeter ruled that Angel City goalkeeper Angelina Anderson had fouled Current center back Kayla Sharples in the penalty box during a scramble before a corner kick. A VAR check upheld the call. Michelle Cooper stepped up and drilled the penalty into the left side of the net, beating Anderson for the winner.\n\nAngel City's coach was not pleased with the call, calling it tremendously cheap afterward. The result stands regardless, and Kansas City now moves on to the final four.\n\nThe Current will face the winner of Sunday's match between Gotham FC and the Seattle Reign in the semifinals.","published_at":"2026-11-07T23:49:20.417156+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Kansas City secures NWSL quarterfinal win on penalty Angel City coach calls ‘tremendously cheap’","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kansas-city-secures-nwsl-quarterfinal-223107097.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Kansas City secures NWSL quarterfinal win on penalty Angel City coach calls 'tremendously cheap'","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7761799/2026/11/07/kansas-city-victory-angel-city-nwsl-quarterfinal/"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Kansas City Current and Angel City FC bring high scoring squads to quarterfinal action","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/kansas-city-current-angel-city-fc-high-scoring-squads-nwsl-to-quarterfinal-action/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Kansas City Current advance to NWSL semifinals, end 10 game unbeated streak for Angel City","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/kansas-city-current-advance-to-nwsl-semifinals-end-10-game-unbeated-streak-for-angel-city/"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Kansas City Current advance to NWSL semifinals, end 10-game unbeaten streak for Angel City","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/kansas-city-current-advance-to-nwsl-semifinals-end-10-game-unbeaten-streak-for-angel-city/"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/d1b5346dc585eaa1198dcd553bebb9bd6b567da7614c3b8f8e779860cfe3464b/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1024_h683%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fthe_athletic_articles_169%2Fc1ad2ab93a8666ba966c88c89d4e1130.jpg","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1024},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
