The Huskers opened 5-0 but have not scored more than 17 points in a game since, sliding to 5-4 amid a four-game Big Ten losing streak during which the offense averaged 13.5 points per game.\n\nHolgorsen arrived with a high profile as a former head coach, but the unit never found rhythm once conference play turned difficult. Reports describe Rhule as angry about the offensive collapse, which has undercut what looked like a promising start to his tenure in Lincoln.\n\nThe firing marks a significant in-season shakeup for a program trying to prove it can compete at the top of the Big Ten. With the offense stalled and the losing streak now at four games, Nebraska will need to find answers quickly to salvage the back half of its schedule.","published_at":"2026-11-07T22:51:28.850708+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Nebraska fires Dana Holgorsen: Matt Rhule parts with high-profile OC amid four-game losing streak","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/nebraska-fires-dana-holgorsen-offensive-coordinator-matt-rhule/"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"'Angry' Rhule fires OC Holgorsen amid Huskers' 4-game losing streak","url":"https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50409703/angry-rhule-fires-oc-holgorsen-amid-nebraska-4-game-skid"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Nebraska firing OC Dana Holgorsen amid offensive struggles, 4-game losing streak","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7761741/2026/11/07/dana-holgorsen-fired-nebraska-football-offensive-coordinator-oc/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dana Holgorsen fired as Nebraska's offensive coordinator after losing streak reaches 4 games","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dana-holgorsen-fired-nebraskas-offensive-182021772.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Nebraska Cornhuskers part ways with OC Dana Holgorsen","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/nebraska-cornhuskers-part-ways-oc-182912893.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Former UH coach Dana Holgorsen fired as Nebraska offensive coordinator following Huskers loss","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/former-uh-coach-dana-holgorsen-233347561.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/2026/11/07/75803bd1-1eb8-4e5a-be12-12f3f68749fb/holgo.jpg","credit":"CBS Sports","width":1920},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
