Dallas bucked draft consensus by taking Fudd first overall instead of Olivia Miles, who went on to win Rookie of the Year, a decision that reunited Fudd with Bueckers in the WNBA.\n\nThat reunion put WNBA media in an awkward spot, with outlets facing criticism over how to handle the personal lives of two young players now sharing a locker room. ESPN in particular drew criticism for not addressing the relationship during its draft night coverage.\n\nBueckers had already pushed back publicly on any suggestion that Fudd was drafted because of their relationship. With the breakup now confirmed to have happened more than a year ago, both players say the matter predates their current standing as teammates.","published_at":"2026-11-06T22:50:22.005201+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Azzi Fudd, Paige Bueckers say they broke up last year; were not dating when Dallas Wings drafted Fudd","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/azzi-fudd-paige-bueckers-broke-203000669.html"},{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Azzi Fudd, Paige Bueckers say they broke up last year; were not dating when Dallas Wings drafted Fudd","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/wnba/azzi-fudd-paige-bueckers-broke-up-last-year-not-dating-dallas-wings-draft.html"},{"outlet":"CBS Sports","publisher":"CBS Sports","title":"Wings teammates Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd announce breakup, reveal split happened 'over a year' ago","url":"https://www.cbssports.com/wnba/news/paige-bueckers-azzi-fudd-breakup-relationship-dallas-wings/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Paige Bueckers says she and Azzi Fudd broke up before the Dallas Wings made them teammates again","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/paige-bueckers-says-she-azzi-204845058.html"},{"outlet":"ESPN","publisher":"ESPN","title":"Exes in Texas: Wings' Fudd, Bueckers discuss relationship on pod","url":"https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/50401662/wings-paige-bueckers-azzi-fudd-talk-relationship-pod"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Relationship between Paige and Azzi has been over for a year, but they’re still friends, Bueckers says","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/relationship-between-paige-azzi-over-211900396.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Wings' Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd reveal they broke up over a year ago, before Fudd was drafted by Dallas","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/breaking-news/article/wings-paige-bueckers-azzi-fudd-reveal-they-broke-up-over-a-year-ago-before-fudd-was-drafted-by-dallas-213614940.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/61fb7230cfd7adeab295696290443edaed5840cdcd5a612ea72e1451cb0cef7e/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1140_h640%3Bquality_80%3Bformat_webp/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fawful_announcing_173%2Fd05ef5a86c54da5507b169f65a11bc73.png","credit":"Yahoo Sports","width":1140},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
