The 42-year-old had spent 12 years in the organization, and the split comes down to the two sides not agreeing on a new contract.\n\nThe timing stands out. Front office executive Andrew Friedman had indicated the coaching staff would stay intact this winter, making the departure an unexpected shake-up rather than a planned transition.\n\nThe change follows a postseason in which the Dodgers offense drew criticism for failing to produce consistently. Whether Bates' exit is framed as a cause or a casualty of that struggle depends on who you ask, but the front office clearly decided a shift was needed after watching the lineup go cold when it mattered.\n\nNo word yet on who replaces Bates or whether the other co-hitting coach role changes as a result. The Dodgers have not commented publicly on the move beyond confirmation through sources.","published_at":"2026-11-06T22:50:22.005201+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dodgers Shake Up Hitting Staff After Disappointing Postseason Offense","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dodgers-shake-hitting-staff-disappointing-163206470.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Dodgers part with hitting coach Aaron Bates after not agreeing on new contract: Sources","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7759473/2026/11/06/dodgers-hitting-coach-aaron-bates-part-ways/"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Dodgers inability to hit leads to front office shakeup after 12 years","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/11/06/sports/dodgers-part-hitting-coach-aaron-bates-after-12-year-stint/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dodgers and hitting coach Aaron Bates part ways in shakeup to coaching staff","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dodgers-hitting-coach-aaron-bates-170056405.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dodgers make drastic change after being swept by Brewers in NLCS","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dodgers-drastic-change-being-swept-173915883.html"},{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Dodgers part ways with hitting coach Bates (source)","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/dodgers-part-ways-hitting-coach-aaron-bates"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Aaron Bates won’t be back as Dodgers hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/aaron-bates-won-t-back-184345895.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Dodgers contract impasse leads to unexpected coaching staff shakeup","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/dodgers-contract-impasse-leads-unexpected-161651381.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"6 Hitting Coach Candidates Dodgers Should Consider After Aaron Bates Departure","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/6-hitting-coach-candidates-dodgers-202515918.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
