After Sunday's 38-33 home loss to the Raiders, a game New York led 30-21 in the third quarter before the defense fell apart, Fitzpatrick was captured telling reporters the breakdowns amounted to \"Jets being Jets.\" It went viral instantly, because of course it did.\n\nOn Thursday, Fitzpatrick said the phrase was actually \"Jets beating Jets,\" a reference to the self-inflicted wounds of bad penalties and mental mistakes rather than some fatalistic shrug about franchise futility. He added that the whole episode didn't affect the mood in the locker room, which is either reassuring or exactly what someone says when it did.\n\nEither way, the Jets have bigger problems than a misquote. The loss to Las Vegas dropped them to 2-6, their third straight defeat and sixth in their last seven games. Aaron Glenn, hired in part for his defensive background, is now 5-20 as head coach, with a defense that has been the opposite of advertised. New York plays at Kansas City on Sunday.","published_at":"2026-11-06T23:35:32.075124+00:00","source_count":4,"written_from":[{"outlet":"Awful Announcing","publisher":"Awful Announcing","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick clarifies his ‘Jets being Jets’ viral comments","url":"https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/minkah-fitzpatrick-jets-viral-comments.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick clears air on ‘Jets being Jets’ controversy during losing streak","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/minkah-fitzpatrick-clears-air-jets-005944882.html"},{"outlet":"New York Post","publisher":"New York Post","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick clears air on ‘Jets being Jets’ controversy during losing streak","url":"https://nypost.com/2026/11/05/sports/minkah-fitzpatrick-clears-air-on-jets-being-jets-controversy/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick Does Damage Control Over Jets Drama","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/minkah-fitzpatrick-does-damage-control-043922208.html"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick clarifies his ‘Jets being Jets’ viral comments","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/minkah-fitzpatrick-clarifies-jets-being-163002770.html"},{"outlet":"Pro Football Talk","publisher":"NBC Sports","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick: No controversy with my quote, everyone on the Jets knows what I meant","url":"https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/minkah-fitzpatrick-no-controversy-with-my-quote-everyone-on-the-jets-knows-what-i-meant"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Minkah Fitzpatrick Fixes Jets Distraction Before Chiefs Clash","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/minkah-fitzpatrick-fixes-jets-distraction-180540111.html"}],"image":null,"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
