The two worked together previously when Green was managing the San Diego Padres, giving Washington an existing relationship with the man now running the Mets' dugout.\n\nThe move signals the Mets are putting extra resources into their offense heading into next season, opting for a co-hitting coach setup rather than relying on a single lead voice. No further details on the rest of the coaching staff were provided.","published_at":"2026-11-05T23:34:19.762266+00:00","source_count":3,"written_from":[{"outlet":"MLB.com","publisher":"MLB.com","title":"Mets adding Johnny Washington to staff as co-hitting coach (source)","url":"https://www.mlb.com/news/johnny-washington-mets-co-hitting-coach"},{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Mets hiring Johnny Washington as co-hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/mets-hiring-johnny-washington-co-211739395.html"},{"outlet":"The Athletic","publisher":"The Athletic","title":"Mets hiring Johnny Washington to major-league coaching staff: Sources","url":"https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7757117/2026/11/05/johnny-washington-mets-hitting-coach/"}],"more_coverage":[{"outlet":"Yahoo Sports","publisher":"Yahoo Sports","title":"Mets allegedly hire Johnny Washington as major league co-hitting coach","url":"https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/mets-allegedly-hire-johnny-washington-224957134.html"}],"image":{"url":"https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/t_2x1/t_w1536/mlb/nkvjcncrh1jlp2cwz4hw.jpg","credit":"MLB.com","width":1536},"embed":null,"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","attribution":"Analysis data is licensed CC BY 4.0.
