The Jets' top receiver was placed in the protocol Wednesday after a helmet-to-helmet hit in last Sunday's loss to the Raiders.
Garrett Wilson did not practice Wednesday and is now in the NFL's concussion protocol, putting his status for Sunday's road game against the Chiefs in serious doubt.
Head coach Aaron Glenn said Wilson is day to day. The receiver came to the facility Monday showing effects from a hit he took in New York's 38-33 loss to the Raiders, and was placed in the protocol after reporting post-concussion symptoms.
The injury happened late in that game, when Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn hit Wilson helmet to helmet on a 15-yard catch, drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty. Wilson stayed in the game and was targeted by quarterback Geno Smith in the end zone on the very next play, but Chinn came up with the interception that sealed the Jets' loss.
Losing Wilson would be a significant blow for New York, since he is the team's No. 1 receiver. There is some better news on the injury front, however, as running back Breece Hall is reportedly trending toward a return. The Jets travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in Week 9.
