Mark Teixeira is headed to Washington. The former Yankees and Rangers slugger, who made three All-Star teams during his playing career, has won election to the U.S. House seat representing Texas's 21st Congressional District, running as a Republican.

Teixeira spent parts of his career with the Rangers, Braves, Angels and Yankees, known for his switch-hitting power and Gold Glove defense at first base. He retired from baseball and has now moved into elected office, becoming the latest former professional athlete to make the jump from pro sports to national politics.
