Detroit signed K.J. Britt and Joe Bachie to the 53-man roster and is set to add Owen Pappoe to the practice squad following Campbell's scary injury.
The Lions scrambled their linebacker room this week after Jack Campbell went down with a frightening neck injury on Sunday. Detroit responded by signing K.J. Britt and Joe Bachie to the 53-man roster, giving the team some immediate depth at the position.
The team is also expected to add Owen Pappoe to the practice squad, pending a physical, according to CBS Sports. Pappoe, 26, was a fifth-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2023 NFL Draft before landing with Detroit.
None of this fixes the obvious problem, which is losing a player as important as Campbell for any stretch of time. But adding bodies with actual NFL snaps under their belts beats hoping backups figure it out on the fly. Britt and Joe Bachie now have roster spots, and Pappoe gives the Lions another option to call up if things get worse before they get better.
Campbell's status going forward was not detailed, leaving Detroit to manage the linebacker corps on short notice as the season continues.
