Bills release safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson

The move comes right after he served a one-game suspension for spitting toward Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.

The Buffalo Bills have released safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the team announced Tuesday, just as he was returning from a one-game suspension stemming from a Week 6 incident in which he spit toward Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.

Gardner-Johnson signed with Buffalo in March on a one-year, $3.5 million deal. His stay lasted six games. Beyond the suspension, he had reportedly struggled with tackling during his time with the Bills.

This is far from the first abrupt exit for Gardner-Johnson. After starting his career with the Saints, the team that drafted him, he has bounced around the league since 2022, spending time with the Eagles, Lions, Eagles again, Texans, Bears and now Bills, never sticking with a team for consecutive full seasons.

He turns 29 in December. Where he lands next, if anywhere, remains to be seen.
