Colts lock up DT Adetomiwa Adebawore instead of trading him

Indianapolis turned down trade interest in the defensive tackle and signed him to a two-year, $35 million extension ahead of next Tuesday's deadline.

The Colts had other players on the trade block ahead of next Tuesday's deadline, but Adetomiwa Adebawore was not one of them for long. Instead of shipping him out, Indianapolis rebuffed outside trade interest and signed the defensive tackle to a two-year extension worth $35 million.

Adebawore, a 2023 fourth-round pick, has made the most of his opportunities this season. Through eight games he has already tied his career high with four sacks, making a strong case for the Colts to keep him around rather than flip him for draft capital.

The extension signals that Indianapolis views Adebawore as part of its long-term plans on the defensive line, even as the front office continues working the phones on other roster moves before the deadline. For a fourth-round pick two years into his career, the new deal represents a significant vote of confidence and a notable payday.
