Spire Motorsports suspends Carson Hocevar for Cup Series finale

The team pulled its own driver from Sunday's Homestead championship race after he repeatedly brake-checked Austin Cindric last weekend at Martinsville.

Carson Hocevar is out of this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, suspended by his own team rather than NASCAR. Spire Motorsports announced the move Tuesday, citing an on-track incident from last week's race at Martinsville, where Hocevar brake-checked Austin Cindric multiple times, including on the straightaways.

Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson said in a statement that the organization chose to act internally instead of waiting on NASCAR to hand down its own penalty. Dickerson described the decision as a complicated one with ripple effects across the team, noting that letting NASCAR decide the punishment would have been the simpler path.

The suspension ends Hocevar's otherwise breakout 2026 Cup Series season on a sour note, keeping him out of the 1.5-mile Homestead oval for the year's final race. No word yet on who will drive the car in his place or whether any further penalty is coming from NASCAR itself.
