An FA independent regulatory commission handed the Southampton manager a six-week ban and a £28,000 fine, but suspended the ban until the end of next season.

Tonda Eckert will stay on as Southampton manager after an FA independent regulatory commission suspended a six-week ban handed to him for his part in the Spygate scandal. The German was also fined £28,000 and given a reprimand.

The ban will only kick in if Eckert is found to have spied on another team at any point through the end of the 2027-28 season. The FA had charged Eckert in July with misconduct, with a hearing taking place at the end of last month.

Southampton were expelled from the Championship play-offs in May after admitting to spying on training sessions involving Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough ahead of the play-off semi-final. The club were also handed a four-point

Both Eckert and Southampton will be relieved he avoided a lengthier ban that could have cost him his job.
